Tournament – Eastbourne Extreme

Eastbourne Extreme is a two-day outdoor sports festival on the south coast. Teams flock from all over the place to compete in the Eastbourne Extreme roller derby tournament on the first day, while the second is reserved for mixed scrimmages. Croydon’s Riot Squad have been reigning champions of the tournament for the past two years… but this year, they sent their B-team, Vice Squad, to compete against some of the hottest teams in the country on one of the hottest days of the year.

You can also be a part of that too, with Croydon Roller Derby.

Don’t forget they all started somewhere, in fact, exactly where you are now. You’re reading this post, you’re already interested, so why not become part of the family and learn one of the most unique, fun and kick ass sports known to mankind?

Double Header: CRD vs CCR

This year Croydon Roller Derby (CRD) plan to take on their toughest competition yet in open door bouts. Central City Rollergirls (CCR), a force to be reckoned within the derby world, presented a whole new challenge to the ambitious CRD. This was going to be a game unlike any other. For the first time CRD were able to challenge themselves against one of the toughest teams around. CRD will forever be grateful for the opportunity to play CCR, who are such a remarkable team.

CRD’s first clash with CCR was in April 2013 when CRD Riot Squad (A) played CCR Slaybelles (B) with the final score 271 – 96 in favour of Riot Squad. Coming back a year later in brand new uniforms, CRD’s newly formed Vice Squad (B) played CCR Slaybelles (B) and CRD Riot Squad (A) played CCR A Team. (more…)

After taking the tournament win in France against Oslo Roller Derby and Nantes Derby Girls Duchesses All Stars in October 2013, it’s high time Croydon Roller Derby made another international trip! On the 25th of May 2014 CRD will travel to Belfast to play a highly anticipated re-match against Belfast Roller Derby. The last match-up between these two teams had us on the edge of our seats, with CRD’s Riot Squad taking home the win against the BRD Banshees. But rumour has it BRD have been training even harder and are determined to put the B in our derby bonnets — so this bout promises to be unmissable! (more…)

Croydon Roller Derby vs. Milton Keynes Roller Derby

Sunday 26th January saw both A and B teams take on Milton Keynes Roller Derby in a double header of fast, fearless fun!

Our relatively new B-team, Vice Squad, proved their mettle once again in a bout which saw them win against MKRD’s Udder Team.

The first few jams were nailbiting for Croydon, with MKRD initially getting a lead of 20-15 – but Vice Squad’s Cardinal Sim swooped in with a power-jam and the lead was restored to CRD.

Nippy jammers V and Blazing Nympherno kept the lead score firmly out of MKRD’s reach, though the Udder Team proved tough blockers and Cat Clash was a standout jammer. Some great defensive blocking was played by our Toxic Frosting and LeJenDary, before a cut was called on Psycho Sis’ gravity-defying apex jump resulting in a powerjam for MKRD – our tough walls giving the jammer a very hard time. Our Psycho wasn’t in the box for long, as Udder players were sent off. Shortly after, the half-time score was announced: Croydon 149 – 48 MKRD. (more…)

Six Reasons You Should Transfer to CRD

Blog 1

Have you played roller derby before?

Recently moved into the Croydon, Surrey or London area?

Looking to join a new league?

COME TO CROYDON.

After moving to London in February 2013, I was living in a new city and suffering derby withdrawal having no league to skate with. I lost my confidence and didn’t have much faith in my skating ability, but CRD gave me a new home. I dusted the dirt off my skates, washed my pads and gave it a go. Several months of training and three closed bouts later, I love being beaten up by these guys.

So, why should you join?

1) You know joining a new league is daunting – It’s like your staging a home invasion of a close knit family right?! FEAR NOT. Croydon will welcome you with open, friendly arms, and you may admire all the muscular calves.

2) You live in London and can’t justify the pricey one-session-a-week rec leagues – Our monthly fees are super reasonable at £35.

3) You’re looking for plenty of track/scrimmage time - CRD trains twice a week and offers up to seven hours of skating sessions per week, including scrimmaging with a full ref crew. (more…)
